Upper Deck Properties (Pty) Ltd, has made a commitment to support the Nompumelelo Educare Centre as part of its community services investment into the local area.
During the past six months Upper Deck Properties has added 2 classrooms (35m2), refurbished 225m2 of the existing building, replaced the ceiling, roof, added electrics and repaired and fitted toilets as well as doors and locks. In addition new vinyl flooring, new carpets and a new kitchen were installed, the outside area was paved and the playground area, now boasting colourful jungle gyms, was greatly improved, fixed and painted. Finally a brand new and very cheerful signboard was erected.
Nompumelelo Educare Centre was started in 1990 in Qolweni, Bossiesgif Township - Plettenberg Bay and received initial Government funding. When the Educare centre moved to Kwanokuthula in 1996, they had to re-initiate the process of re-application for Government funding, which is still ongoing.
There are 90 children in total, ranging from 6 months old babies to 5-year old pre-schoolers. According to Thelma Besana, School Principal, they are desperately in need of at least 2 more teachers, in addition to the existing total of 5 they have.
“Ara Manuelian and Noelle Bolton have been rays of sunshine to us all here by supporting us any way they could and rallying the local community to become involved,” states Thelma whose pride in the school is evident in the immaculate and well tended school grounds.
Comment Ara and Noelle, directors of Upper Deck Properties, “It’s heart-warming to see the brightly coloured murals adorning the outside walls and welcoming the children to the centre. Nompumelelo has become a harmonious environment where the children, with bright smiling faces, are now content and look forward to coming to school every morning. “
