Out & About with fu shi Executive Chef – Vanie Padayachee

30 May 2008 - Mid-year is upon us and fu.shi fusion cuisine is steadily gaining momentum. Renowned “spice” girl and Executive Chef of the flagship restaurant at The Upper Deck Lifestyle centre, Vanie Padayachee will be making her rounds at well known cooking events and competitions during the bumper packed month of July.

Her first stop is at the celebrated Sunday Times Chef of the Year competition on 5 July 2008. The competition takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The aim is to display and explore participants cooking skills and flair whilst putting their creativity through the ultimate test as they are challenged to create unique dishes from secret pre–selected ingredients. Each contestant has to prepare a six-course degustation menu including paired wines and non-alcoholic beverages to complement their creations. Next Vanie will be gearing up for the annual Knysna Oyster cooking competition on 9 July 2008. All entrants are required to prepare their chosen dish prior to the actual event. Vanie aims to tantalize the taste buds as she prepares a sumptuous, mouth-watering oyster recipe. This is definitely an event not to be missed.

Finally Vanie will display her creative culinary abilities during a cooking demo at the George Cheese Festival on 25 July 2008. She will also form part of the ‘ready steady cook off’ affair at the Festival on 26 July 2008.
